Humility Cultivates Humanity
You must be humble to genuinely ride humanity’s ride.
Humility comes from a Greek work that means ‘grounded’. Being humble is to be ‘unselved’ — to remove the subjectivity of ego and selfishness is to see a larger perspective, deeper understanding, and compassionate worldview. It is to lose self and gain humanity. It is the main ingredient of enlightenment.
The wonderful thing about being humble is the utter simplicity of it and how little you need to understand and accomplish it. Being humble is one of the first virtues taught to most of us at a very young age. Sincerely, it is Everything I Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten 101.
“Being humble” is inseparable from “being kind,” thus in a word, the Golden Rule is humility.
And what a powerful tool being humble is! When you apply it to anything you instantly gain understand of that thing a thousand-fold! It removes the biggest symptom of selfishness which is bias. Apply it to your religion and you learn its true spiritual lessons. Apply it to your political ideology and you learn compassion. Apply it to marriage and you learn growth. Apply it to your job and you learn purpose.
All this and more from just simply removing self!
Just remember, removing self is temporary. You have to work at it, keep doing it over and over. Humble steps are also the destination, you know —the goal is the journey, remind yourself to see Heaven all around you, live in the moment, etc.
When you practice humility, you become a true member of humanity. And that’s where the love is.
